Network Rail Class 950001 at Abbotswood Junction, Worcester | Class 66 Freight & Passenger Trains |
Join me at Abbotswood Junction, just south of Worcester, one of the busiest railway junctions in the West Midlands, where Great Western Railway, CrossCountry and freight services converge.
On this visit we witness a fantastic variety of traction, including the increasingly rare Network Rail Class 950001 Track Recording Unit, making one of its monitoring runs through the junction. With the unique Class 950 due to be withdrawn in favour of a converted Class 153, every appearance is becoming more significant.
Also featured is DB Cargo Class 66 No. 66427 powering through with the daily Tesco intermodal service:

Alongside these special workings, there are plenty of regular Great Western Railway and CrossCountry passenger services passing through this busy location.
๐ About Abbotswood Junction
Abbotswood Junction has a fascinating railway history. The junction was created around 1850, when the Oxford, Worcester & Wolverhampton Railway connected with the Bristol & Gloucester Railway just outside Worcester.
A station originally known as Worcester Junction opened in November 1850 by the Midland Railway. It was renamed Abbotโs Wood Junction on 1 March 1852, before closing just over three years later on 1 October 1855. Although the station has long disappeared, the junction itself remains an important part of the national rail network today.
