D1015 Western Champion with The Final Farewell For Pathfinders at Ince - 20th December 2025
The class 52 diesal hydraulic locomotive hauling today a big part of Pathfinders Railrours final ever train. Having run specials for over 50 years it was announced on 23rd September 2025 the company would cease to run them.

D1015 is one of seven preserved Westerns from the original 74 built by BR at Swindon and Crewe. The loco has a DTG nickname. 'The Mule' Western Champion gained mainline certification in 2002.
This is the first time ever one has been down this line too
I have seen this locomotive a once before and doesn't she look and sound phenomenal.

The Western was carrying D1001 'Western Pathfinder' on one side only.

A Class 52 diesel hydraulic locomotive, D1015 Western Champion, is seen passing Ince station near Wigan on a special train operated by Pathfinders Railtours. This was part of the company's final ever service, following its decision to cease running specials after over 50 years. The locomotive, one of seven preserved Westerns originally built by British Railways, was certified for mainline use in 2002 and made its first appearance on this route. The train was officially working as 1Z52 from Salisbury to Lostock Hall Junction.
