Description
A short comparison video between some new and old locomotives seen heading along the west coast main line through Springs Branch on the warm afternoon of Wednesday 9th July 2025.

British Rail Class 93 is a tri-mode locomotive built by Stadler Rail in Valencia built between 2022 and 2024.
37668 was originally 37265 built at English Electric Vulcan Foundry in 1965.

The 93s were on yet another mileage run from Crewe to Carlisle running fairly slowly having waited to a Liverpool express to cross the like. Whisper quiet locomotives on electric has 6200 horsepower.

The 37 has 1750 horsepower which is a significant difference. 37668 was hauling a pair of Mark 2 coaches from Carnforth down to Southall just under 50 early here.

The 37 was behind that Liverpool express I mentioned earlier and really did power up to sound absolutely epic. A very fun couple of minutes.

I prefer the older class 37. But comment below what you like of these or your favourite overall?
