New Lumo Class 222 (222002) Passes Springs Branch - 03rd February 2026

Former East Midlands Railway Class 222 Meridian unit 222005 speeds north along the west coast main line and through Springs Branch south of Wigan on the very cold and windy afternoon of Tuesday 3rd February 2026.

The class 222 was working a Barton Under Needwood depot to Polmadie depot move for Lumo Trains ahead of more training runs before entering service at some point this year.

The class 222 unit will be working for Lumo Trains from mid 2026 on a brand new passenger service from London Euston to Stirling in Scotland offering some valuable competition. Planned calling points are London Euston, Nuneaton, Crewe, Preston, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Whifflet, Greenfaulds, Larbert and Sterling.

The future of the Class 222s all are scheduled to be returned to Eversholt Rail Group in the future once Class 810s replace them on EMR Intercity services.
In June 2025 it was announced that Lumo is going to lease five 6-car Class 222s. It is planned for the five 222 units to operate a service from London Euston to Stirling
