Description
GBRF Class 56 locomotive 56098 sporting the B.R. large logo livery is seen rounding a curve of track linking the west coast main line at Bamfurlong Junction to Ince Moss Junction on the Bryn/St Helen’s Central line on the morning of Sunday 4th February 2024.

The 56 is on a short term hire to DCR from GBRF. Today she was working the loaded sand train from Middleton Towers to the Pilkington's glass factory at Ravenhead Sidings in St Helens. The train had run early for the long trip west as far as Acton Bridge the previous day with her being dumped overnight in Warrington Mail Sidings.

This was down to overhead line damage in the Winwick Junction area just north of Warrington which may of been caused by GBRF 66718 on the Hams Hall to Mossend container train. I had gone to Bryn last night which was a wasted trip. A nice morning path in today to complete the job in daylight is lovely. Made the run worthwhile.

I have seen this loco when she was hired in by Colas to work the Chirk logs train , a link to that can be found here.

Quite a few of the class 56 fleet have been converted into a class 69 which is a 66 in drag. This particular locomotive according to this article is set to convert at some stage. I adore the 56s and there distinctive engines it will be sad seeing them converted.
