Stanier Class Black Five 45212 on The Peaks Express - 27th October 2024
The steam locomotive was working "The Peaks Express" railtour from Preston to Derby via Manchester Piccadilly outbound and then via Stockport through Sheffield and onwards to Derby.
The train can be seen chugging along the slow lines as booked here to avoid clashing with much faster Avanti services. Only a few more miles of WCML to run here before swinging left at Golborne and Parkside Junction for Manchester.
The homeward bound leg would work a slightly different route via places such as Chesterfield, Hope Earles Sidings Freight Terminal up through Stockport then around Manchester via an unusual reversal at Stalybridge before dropping off at Manchester Victoria , Wigan North Western and finally Preston.
Not a great shot for audio with the loud main road behind me. 1A17 London train was the reason this was booked via slows.
