Heavy Vs Light Class 60 Freight Train Comparison at Bamfurlong - 03rd August 2025
The class 60 was on hire to DC Rail here dispatched to work the Middleton Towers to Pilkington Glass factory in St Helens sand train with the empties heading back to Derby as usual.
A good look at how the locomotive deals with an almost fully loaded train to the day later where the train runs back empty. Testing the drivers ability and concentration.
The class 60s use an 8-cylinder, Mirrlees Blackstone 8MB275T four-stroke diesel engine with 3,100 bhp (2,300 kW)
at rail: 2,415 bhp (1,801 kW).
Tractive effort being Maximum: 106,500 lbf (474 kN).
Impressive grunt for a locomotive that's around 30 years or so old in 2025.
