89001 Returns! First Class 1 Passenger Service in 26 Years | Passes Springs Branch | 14th July 2026
The class 89 heads south on the Chairman's Train from Carlisle to London Euston. The iconic electric locomotive is working her first Class 1 passenger service in 26 years, marking another significant milestone in her remarkable story. A glorious sight to see her back where she belongs, leading passengers on the main line once again. Hopefully it's not long before paying passengers are onboard.
37521 & 37667 ran the train from Kilmarnock to Carlisle before the Badger took over.
The AC Locomotive Group and Locomotive Services Group announced a partnership back in 2021 to bring the prototype electric locomotive, Class89 89001' Avocet' back into mainline use.

A prototype electric locomotive, Class 89 89001, nicknamed "Badger," is seen operating a passenger service along the West Coast Main Line and through the Springs Branch near Wigan.
