The unique and very special prototype electric locomotive class 89 89001 named "Avocat" but fondly nicknamed "Badger"is seen speeding south along the west coast main line and through Springs Branch south of Wigan on the sunny morning of Tuesday 14th July 2026

The class 89 heads south on the Chairman's Train from Carlisle to London Euston. The iconic electric locomotive is working her first Class 1 passenger service in 26 years, marking another significant milestone in her remarkable story. A glorious sight to see her back where she belongs, leading passengers on the main line once again. Hopefully it's not long before paying passengers are onboard.

37521 & 37667 ran the train from Kilmarnock to Carlisle before the Badger took over.

The AC Locomotive Group and Locomotive Services Group announced a partnership back in 2021 to bring the prototype electric locomotive, Class89 89001' Avocet' back into mainline use.
