LINSINGER Rail Milling Machine - 23rd December 2024
The important machines working a Crewe to Carnforth move here running a few minutes late. The rail milling train renews track by grinding away the damaged top layer of steel on the rail. It has wheels with hundreds of cutting tips, which spin to shave off small pieces of rail. Doing this slowly means the train consistently shaves off all the defects as it passes.
Video and articles about this train and operations I have linked below as the vast amount of machines and numbers always baffles me. I don't often film them too.
