GBRF 69006 'Pathfinder Railtours' on route learning + 66413 ditches troublesome trucks at Fairwater!
Later on Tuesday, 66413 had arrived on a light engine move, for what we thought was to haul an engineers freight as 6Z20 to Hinksey Sidings. However while the 69 continued to trundle back and forth to Exeter, it soon became clear all was not well and the 66 ended up returning to Stoke Gifford light engine leaving the wagons in a cold and frosty Fairwater.
We had hoped to see a pair of Rail Ops Group Class 37s 37512 + 37501 today hauling 175010 from Ely Papworth Sidings down to Penzance, however sadly the Class 37s and their barrier wagons never left Derby on Monday for Ely, and the earmarked pair were on another working between Gascoigne Wood - Soho TMD, rendering the Penzance move cancelled, but still a great day of action nonetheless.
We finished the sequence reflecting on the time that this very locomotive 69006 did indeed pull a Pathfinder railtour back in 2023 with sister 69005 working the 1Z69 Mazey Day Special from Tame Bridge Parkway - Penzance. While the tour operator may be gone, it’s great to see the 69 carrying the name and continuing their legacy on the mainline.
