A Trip to the West Somerset Railway - Summer Diesel FestivalSaturday 6th June 2026What a day on the WSR!I started at Bishops Lydeard bright and early. The gala kicked off with W51354 departing light to start the day.
Before anything else, I had a quick look at the model railway on the platform.Then D6575 rolled in with a freight train, before later departing again.
47714 arrived next with ECS, and that’s when I decided to head up the line to Minehead behind it.On the run up, we stopped at Crowcombe Heathfield where 26007 was sat waiting for 47714 to arrive.
Once the paths crossed, we set off again — and it was proper thrash all the way to Minehead!I hopped off 47714 at Williton to catch 26007 instead and continue to Minehead.
On that run we waited for 37250 to come past — and yes, it was thrashing hard!By the time I reached Blue Anchor, D9526 + W51354 were sat waiting on the other platform.
Finally into Minehead, and 47714 was there waiting to depart. I watched 26007 run round its train.Later in the day, 50049 arrived on its last trip.
For the trip back, I headed up to Williton behind 26007.
At Williton, 37250 thrashed out towards Minehead, while D9526 + W51354 waited for D7017 to arrive and depart.I rode D7017 all the way back to Bishops Lydeard, passing 47714 at Crowcombe Heathfield on the way.
Back at Bishops Lydeard, D4107 was waiting to run round its coach.To round off the perfect day, 26007 came back into Bishops Lydeard to finish the gala.What a fantastic day on the West Somerset Railway!
