Locomotive: Southern Railway Schools Class V No. 926 (Repton)
Constructed at SR Eastleigh Works in May 1934, 926 (Repton) is a 92-year-old Southern Railway V "Schools" Class 4-4-0 express passenger steam locomotive. Designed by SR Chief Mechanical Engineer Richard Maunsell, the Schools class holds the distinction of being the most powerful 4-4-0 steam locomotive class ever built in Europe. Powered by a 220 psi superheated boiler feeding three 16.5 in × 26 in cylinders driving 6 ft 7 in coupled driving wheels, the 107-ton engine generates a tractive effort of 25,130 lbf (SR Power Class 4P / BR Power Class 5P). Resplendent in authentic Southern Railway Maunsell Olive Green livery with yellow lining and bold "SOUTHERN" lettering on its six-wheel tender, 926 was preserved in 1962, spent two decades in North America, and returned to the UK in 1989 to become a flagship member of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway home fleet.
