High Speed Pass: 68002 & 68034 Storm Past 37706 (19th May 2025)

Description
A massive slice of fortune and pure timing sees a rather cool looking crossover shot of two trains converging in either direction speeding along the west coast main line and through Springs Branch south of Wigan on the lovely warm afternoon of Monday 19th May 2025.

First up heading south we have Direct Rail Services 68034 leading 68002 on the extremely late running Coatbridge to Daventry container train. 002 I think failed at Beattock in Scotland and was eventually rescued. 345 late is enormous.

Going northbound seconds later West Coast Railways Class 37 Locomotive 37706 powering an empty stock move back from the Severn Valley Railway at Kidderminster back home to Carnforth having been working on the diesel gala the previous weekend.

I have a slight error in the thumbnail but it still does the job and I hate editing.

A cool modern Vs heratige comparison too.

37706 was built at Vulcan Foundry at Newton Le Willows in June 1961 with 1750 horsepower.
The class 68s built at Stadler Valencia with single 16-cylinder 3,800 hp (2.8 MW) C175-16 engine supplied by Caterpillar Inc.

A video captures two trains passing each other on the West Coast Main Line and Springs Branch near Wigan. Southbound is Direct Rail Services' Class 68 locomotive 68034 leading 68002, part of a container train running late due to a breakdown. Northbound is West Coast Railways' Class 37 locomotive 37706, returning from the Severn Valley Railway after a diesel gala. The footage highlights a modern versus heritage comparison, with 37706 built in 1961 and the Class 68s manufactured more recently. The scene was recorded on a warm afternoon in late May.
