Class 57 Hauls Brand New 2024 Tube Stock! GBRF No's 57310 & 57306 Delivery to Gascoigne Wood Sidings

Lead Locomotive: GBRf Class 57/3 No. 57310 (UK Railtours)
Re-engineered by Brush Traction at Loughborough between 2002 and 2004 from Class 47/4 No. 47814 (originally built by Brush in 1964 as D1748), 57310 (UK Railtours) is a 62-year-old Co-Co diesel-electric locomotive operated by GB Railfreight (GBRf). Fitted with a 2,500 hp (1,864 kW) EMD 12-645E3B 12-cylinder 2-stroke diesel engine driving GM traction motors, it delivers a top operational speed of 95 mph (153 km/h). Originally constructed for Virgin Trains as a "Thunderbird" standby rescue locomotive, 57310 retains its signature nose-mounted swing-out Dellner coupling mechanism. Resplendent in GBRf blue and orange livery, it provides specialized haulage for rolling stock transfers and charter services.

Rear Locomotive: GBRf Class 57/3 No. 57306 (Branch Line Society)
Converted by Brush Traction from Class 47/4 No. 47809 (originally D1738 built in 1964), 57306 (Branch Line Society) is a matching 62-year-old Class 57/3 diesel-electric locomotive operated by GBRf. Powered by an identical 2,500 hp (1,864 kW) EMD 12-645E3B power plant, 57306 is also a former Virgin Thunderbird rescue engine equipped with Dellner coupler equipment. Carrying immaculate GBRf livery, it operates on the rear in top-and-tail configuration to provide trailing power, braking control, and operational flexibility during directional changes.

The train conveys a complete 9-car unit delivery of brand-new London Underground 2024 Stock (Siemens Inspiro London platform), carrying unit set number 063 with individual carriage numbers 38063, 39063, 40063, 41063, 42063, 45063, 46063, 47063, and 48063. Manufactured at Siemens Mobility's newly opened Goole Rail Village (Goole Glassworks), these air-conditioned, walk-through deep-level tube trains are replacing the aging 1973 Stock on the Piccadilly line as part of Transport for London's Deep Tube Upgrade Programme.

Flanking the 9-car tube set at both ends are specialized European bogie barrier wagons leased from French leasing giant Touax Rail, registered in the Netherlands (NL) and TOPS/UIC classified as IWA Rfnoos timber carrier flat wagons. Painted in dark blue livery with prominent vertical side stanchions (stakes/staves), these wagons have been customized with large concrete ballast blocks. Because deep-level tube trains feature low clearances, specialized Dellner couplings, and miniature braking systems incompatible with standard mainline locomotives, these weighted IWA Rfnoos barrier wagons act as essential transition vehicles, providing compatible buffers and coupler interfaces while supplying necessary brake force and ballast weight during mainline transit.

Seen here in 8K 16:9 widescreen operating as a factory delivery transfer from Siemens' Goole Glassworks facility to GBRf's holding yard at Gascoigne Wood Sidings, Class 57 No. 57310 (UK Railtours) leads the movement through Gascoigne Wood Junction. The top-and-tail formation moves slowly past the junction on a beautiful, sunny summer afternoon on Monday, 10th of August 2026 at 12:50, entering the sidings to drop off the brand-new 9-car tube train (unit 063) for storage and testing before the locomotives depart later hauling only the empty barrier wagons.
