Picturesque Ribblehead Station Freight Pass! GBRf Class 66 Number 66730 With a Heavy Aggregate Train
Built by Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) in London, Ontario in 2003, 66730 (named Whitemoor) is a 23-year-old Co-Co heavy freight diesel-electric locomotive operated by GB Railfreight (GBRf). Powered by a highly reliable 3,300 hp (2,460 kW) EMD 12-710G3B-EC two-stroke V12 diesel engine, the 126-ton "Shed" produces a massive 90,000 lbf of continuous tractive effort, making it the ultimate workhorse for heavy UK freight. Finished in GBRf's distinctive blue and orange livery, 66730 is tasked here with heavy aggregate haulage across the challenging gradients of the Settle & Carlisle line.
Seen here in 8K 16:9 widescreen set against the dramatic, weather-beaten landscape of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, GBRf Class 66 No. 66730 hauls a heavy loaded aggregate freight train from Arcow Quarry to Hunslet Tilcon. The 3,300 hp locomotive powers the heavy stone hoppers past the picturesque, traditional architecture of Ribblehead Station and the world-famous 24-arch Ribblehead Viaduct. The heavy stone train makes its way through the atmospheric Pennine landscape on a rainy summer's afternoon on Wednesday, 5th of August 2026 at 17:57.
Operational Quirk: Because the railway siding connection at Arcow Quarry physically faces north, trains bound for Hunslet Tilcon in Leeds (which is to the south) cannot turn south directly. Instead, the loaded train must depart the quarry heading north, pass through the picturesque Ribblehead Station, and cross over the world-famous Ribblehead Viaduct to reach the freight loops at Blea Moor. There, the locomotive detaches, runs around to the opposite end of the train, and hauls the heavy aggregate back south—crossing the viaduct and passing the station once again on its definitive southward journey to West Yorkshire.
