Classic Class 43s to Upperby and MPV Squirts to Scotland 31 August 2026

Monday 31st August, the Summer Bank Holiday in England and Wales. Some surprisingly interesting activity around Carlisle!
Firstly to kill a bot of time, I went to Black Rigg Farm overbridge north of Carlisle Yard to see some WCML trains at speed.

However the highlight of the day was when 125 Group sent a pair of their Class 43s with a coach from the East Lancashire Railway to LSL's depot at Upperby. We see it at Haltwhistle. At Upperby the coach was swapped for another one which was then taken to Leicester. We see some shunting at Upperby and then the 'southbound' train on the Tyne Valley line at Wetheral.
Later in the afternoon GBRf took a train made up of MPVs, configured for Rail Head Treatment Train service, to Bridgeton depot in Scotland. We see it at Citadel station.
Finally DB Cargo sent Class 66s to Arpley and Tees Yard after weekend work on the Sou' Western line north of Kilmarnock.
