Wedgwood Railway Station – The Station That's Still Here… But Hasn't Had a Train for 20 Years!
Welcome to Wedgwood railway station in Staffordshire – one of the strangest stations on Britain's railway network!
Opened as Wedgwood Halt in 1940 to serve the famous Wedgwood pottery complex, this little station once had a very useful purpose. But since May 2004, passenger trains have stopped calling here.
The really unusual thing is that the railway itself is far from abandoned. Trains continue to race through Wedgwood, but none stop to pick up passengers. Instead, passengers are directed to a rail replacement bus service.
In this video we'll discover the fascinating history of Wedgwood station, why it was built, why its train service disappeared, what happened to its platforms and whether passenger trains could one day return.
It's certainly an unusual contender for Staffordshire's least-used railway station – because it's rather difficult to use a station when no trains actually stop!
