Description
West Coast Railways Class 37/7 No. 37706
Constructed by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire in 1961 (originally entering traffic as D6706, renumbered 37006 under TOPS, and rebuilt at Crewe Works in 1988/89 with heavy ballast weights as Class 37/7 heavy freight sub-class 37706), 37706 is a 65-year-old Co-Co heavy mixed-traffic diesel-electric locomotive operated by West Coast Railways (WCR). Powered by a 1,750 hp (1,305 kW) English Electric 12CSVT 12-cylinder turbocharged four-stroke diesel engine driving English Electric traction motors, the 120-tonne locomotive produces a maximum starting tractive effort of 55,000 lbf (245 kN), an operational top speed of 75 mph (121 km/h), and an onboard fuel tank capacity of approximately 4,000 litres (880 imperial gallons). Locomotive 37706 is turned out in West Coast Railways' signature Carnforth Maroon livery, featuring a classic retro-styled finish with small yellow warning panels (small yellow ends) and authentic bodyside numbering, providing a distinctive vintage look as part of WCR's mainline charter fleet.

West Coast Railways Class 47/8 No. 47813
Built by Brush Traction at the Falcon Works in Loughborough in 1965 (delivered to British Railways as D1664, renumbered 47079, and rebuilt in 1989 with long-range fuel tanks as dedicated express passenger locomotive 47813), 47813 is a 61-year-old Co-Co diesel-electric locomotive operated by West Coast Railways. Powered by a 2,580 hp (1,920 kW) Sulzer 12LDA28-C 12-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine driving Brush traction motors, the 122-tonne locomotive generates a maximum starting tractive effort of 60,000 lbf (267 kN), an operational top speed of 95 mph (153 km/h), and extended long-range fuel tanks holding 5,910 litres (1,300 imperial gallons). The locomotive is finished in matching West Coast Railways maroon livery with yellow warning front ends, having historically carried nameplates including Solway Princess and Jack Frost across decades of frontline cross-country and charter passenger service.

West Coast Railways Coaching Stock on The Dalesman Rail Tour
The train conveys a dedicated charter rake of West Coast Railways passenger carriages, marshalled as a mixed rake of British Rail Mark 2 coaches in both classic BR Blue and Grey and WCR Maroon liveries, combined with a vintage British Rail Mark 1 kitchen / catering car in full WCR Maroon. Operating the return leg of The Dalesman—one of Britain's premier summer mainline railtours taking passengers across the scenic Settle & Carlisle Line from Carlisle back to York via West and North Yorkshire—this rake offers traditional mainline dining and excursion travel behind vintage diesel traction.

Passing Sherburn-in-Elmet Station
Seen in 8K 16:9 widescreen thundering north through Sherburn-in-Elmet station at speed on the return leg of The Dalesman charter from Carlisle to York, West Coast Railways Class 37 No. 37706 roars in classic maroon with small yellow warning ends. Giving a sharp blast on the horn as she blasts past the platforms, the 65-year-old English Electric tractor works hard on the mainline hauling the mixed Mark 2 and Mark 1 kitchen car rake, with classmate Brush Type 4 Class 47 No. 47813 working on the rear on a warm summer's night on Tuesday, 25th of August 2026 at 21:16.
