ALL CHANGE | 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' and LNWR Coal Tank 1054 arrive at the West Somerset Railway!

An afternoon at the West Somerset Railway at Bishops Lydeard today where not 1 but 2 arrivals took place ahead of the Autumn Season!
LNWR Webb Coal Tank No. 1054 arrived by road on low loader in preparation for its starring role in the railways Autumn Steam Gala and is seen being unloaded and shunted into Westridge shed.
BR Standard Class 8P 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' arrived at the head of the 5Z71 off the mainline working from Southall Locomotive Services.
The Duke will not be participating in the Autumn Steam Gala, but is instead stabling at the WSR ahead of mainline commitments on a Steam Dreams railtour to Cornwall next week.
The accompanying LSL diesel 57003 which was scheduled to pilot the Duke this afternoon failed at Southall and so the pacific was cleared to 'go it alone', a triumph for steam traction on the mainline after a quiet Summer plagued by steam bans and fire risk!
Also seen on WSR services are Manors 7802 'Bradley Manor', 7828 'Odney Manor' and Class 14 D9526. | 15.09.2026
