66429 Meets 66797 at Springs Branch | Class 66 WCML Freight Crossover | 15th September 2026

A slice of well timed fortune as a late running freight train in one direction meets a slightly early running equivalent seen heading along the west coast main line at Springs Branch south of Wigan on the morning of Tuesday 15th September 2026.

Up first in view heading away south was Direct Rail Services class 66 locomotive 66429 on a heavily delayed Tesco container train from Coatbridge to Daventry seen here 51 late.

Going northbound we have GBRF 66797 in the distinctive Beacon Rail blue and gold colours working the Avonmouth to Cliteroe cement train. The class 66s are superb machines and pretty reliable foo. Although 66797 would actually fail the next day at Daisyfield Junction at Blackburn I believe.
