Peterborough Railway Station in the 2000s | GNER, HSTs, Class 91s, Eurostars & British Railways
Step back in time to Peterborough Railway Station in the 2000s, when the East Coast Main Line was alive with an incredible variety of trains.
In this video, we return to a fascinating period when GNER Class 91s and InterCity 125 HSTs dominated the main line, alongside local and regional diesel units, freight trains and an ever-changing collection of railway liveries.
Peterborough was one of the best places in Britain for railway enthusiasts. Express trains raced north towards York, Newcastle and Scotland and south towards London King's Cross, while regional services connected the city with Lincoln, Leicester, Birmingham, Ely, Ipswich and many other destinations.
There were some particularly unusual visitors too. During the early 2000s, former Eurostar sets operated GNER's White Rose services, meaning you could actually see a Eurostar at Peterborough!
The decade also witnessed enormous change. GNER disappeared in 2007, National Express East Coast arrived, and by the end of 2009 the East Coast name had appeared.
Join us as we remember Peterborough Railway Station in the 2000s – a wonderfully busy railway crossroads during a period that already feels remarkably different from today.
