Oxford Turned into a TERMINUS Due to Major GAS LEAK at Didcot
Major disruption hit the Great Western Main Line on 23 September 2026 after a gas leak near Didcot forced the railway between Didcot Parkway and Reading to close.
In this video, Iโm at Oxford station to capture the unusual railway operations caused by the incident. With only a select number of trains able to operate towards Didcot Parkway, Oxford effectively became a terminus for many services, resulting in some very unusual movements and scenes around the station.
The gas leak occurred in the Ladygrove area of Didcot, where the gas network was reportedly damaged by a third party. An exclusion zone was put in place while emergency repairs were carried out, preventing trains from operating normally through the area.
The disruption had a huge knock-on effect across the network, affecting GWR services through Oxford, Didcot Parkway, Reading and Swindon, with trains diverted, cancelled or terminated short of their usual destinations.
This video documents the railway action at Oxford during the disruption, including trains terminating and turning around at the station, altered services and the unusual sight of Oxford operating as the end of the line for many passengers.
A fascinating day operationally โ although certainly a difficult one for passengers caught up in the disruption.
