πŸš‚ 41313 Being Turned on the Kidderminster Turntable | Autumn Steam Gala

Join me at Kidderminster Town during the Autumn Steam Gala for a fantastic opportunity to see steam locomotive 41313 being turned on the turntable!

It’s always something special to watch a preserved steam locomotive being moved onto the turntable and rotated into position, and in this video you can see the turntable in action as 41313 is turned at Kidderminster.

πŸš‚ About 41313

Built at Crewe in 1952, No. 41313 is an Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T tank locomotive.

The locomotive entered service at Brighton in 1952 before being transferred to Exmouth Junction, where it worked local passenger services around Exeter, including services on the Sidmouth and Exmouth branches. It was also used on banking duties between Exeter St Davids and Exeter Central.

During its working life, 41313 was allocated to several sheds, including Three Bridges, Faversham, Barnstaple and Brighton, undertaking passenger, goods, parcels and shunting duties. It also worked services on the Bude, Torrington and Halwill lines and was involved in empty-stock workings between Clapham Junction and Waterloo.

By 1965, dieselisation was replacing steam in the Eastleigh area and 41313 was withdrawn from service in November 1965.

The locomotive was subsequently sold to Woodham Brothers and moved to their famous scrapyard at Barry Docks, South Wales, in 1966. Remarkably, it survived there until it was purchased by the Ivatt Trust in 1975.

After spending time at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton Road, plans were eventually made to restore 41313 to working order.

In 2015, the locomotive moved to the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore for restoration. After years of work, a fire was lit in the boiler for the first time since 1965 in March 2017, and 41313 successfully returned to steam at the East Somerset Railway in June 2017.

The locomotive then moved to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in October 2017, entering service there in May 2018, where it continues to operate in preservation.
