After the excitement of the Journey shrinker HST railtour yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEMgz_TNlXM&t=5s we caught some steam action today over at the Avon Valley Railway!
The Chocolate Sunday event saw the Fry's Somerdale Chocolate Sentinel out and about trundling around Bitton offering brake van rides while newly restored Manning Wardle Works No 1955 14 Charwelton 0-6-0ST was out on service trains today. This locomotive should be heading back to the Kent & East Sussex Railway in early November and she certainly looked resplendent in the glorious Autumnal Sunshine, with busy trains and visitors area enjoying a steam hauled train journey between Bitton, Oldland Common and Avon Riverside, along the old Midland Railway
After two round trips, we waited up from Bitton station along the cycle path to see the 13.15 depart, however unfortunatly news filtered through that 'Charwelton' had failed and upon walking back to the station 08377 was being prepared to take delayed train and cover for the remainder of the day so hopefully the fault is a quick fix. | 04.10.2026
