DC Rail 60022 'Ingleborough' on its DEBUT LOADED RUN to Merehead with DCR 60099 'Ben More Assynt'

A great day of action from Somerset’s two Mendip Rail served limestone quarries today, Aggregate Industries Merehead Quarry/ Torr Works and Hansons Whatley Quarry, with the highlight being 60022 'Ingleborough' making an eagerly anticipated return to the mainline on its first loaded train at the head of the 6V95 Willesden - Merehead. The locomotive has been turned out in a striking LMS livery and was paired with 60099 'Ben More Assynt' for insurance on an inbound and outbound working between Willesden DC Rail Sidings and Merehead.

The 60s are seeing a resurgence, with DCR lovingly restoring their examples, GBRF reentering their examples into traffic after being stored at Doncaster and EPR now beginning to clear Toton of some of the laid up DB examples, so its great to see these powerful workhorses once again being pressed back into traffic doing the work they were built for.

During the few hours out and about there was plenty going on at both Quarries, with the American built Switchers making a welcome appearance, both shunting around the sidings, and more Freightliner Class 59s and Class 66s on shed at Whatley Quarry.
