King’s Cross in the 1990s – When InterCity 125s & 225s Ruled the East Coast Main Line
Step back into the 1990s and experience London King’s Cross during one of the most memorable periods in British railway history.
This was the East Coast Main Line in the days when the magnificent InterCity 125 High Speed Trains were still a familiar sight beneath the great train shed, while the newer InterCity 225s brought a new generation of high-speed electric travel to the railway.
With Class 43 HST power cars, Mark 3 coaches, Class 91 electric locomotives and their distinctive Mark 4 sets, King’s Cross was a fascinating place for railway enthusiasts. The station echoed to the sound of diesel engines alongside the quieter but equally impressive electric InterCity 225s.
In this video, we travel back to King’s Cross in the 1990s to see the trains, railway infrastructure and atmosphere of a station that looked and felt very different from the King’s Cross we know today.
It was an era of InterCity swallow livery, long-distance expresses and some of the finest trains ever to operate on Britain’s railways.
So sit back and enjoy another journey into Britain’s railway past as we return to **King’s Cross Station in the 1990s – the age of the InterCity 125 and 225.**
