60022 Returns with 56103 In Tow at Bamfurlong | 02/10/2026

On Tuesday, 8th September 2026, DCRail launched Class 60 diesel No. 60022 in front of a gathering of guests in Derby having been away from the rails for 17 years. The locomotive was taken out of service and stored at Toton on 12th December 2009, due to major engine faults. It remained sidelined until it was completely overhauled and officially launched back into service.

Today we see the return leg home after some test runs along the west coast main line seen on the damp and cloudy afternoon of Friday 2nd October 2026 at Bamfurlong south of Wigan. The locos were heading from Carlisle to Derby back to base here running 62 minutes early here in tremendous form having not really used the pathing stops thankfully which included Preston.

They had run from Rectory Lane to Carlisle the previous day and with another run between Carlisle and Preston really stretching it's legs which I couldn't film. 60022 named "Ingleborough"has been rebuilt and modernised as part of a multi-million-pound investment by DCRail to upgrade its freight handling capabilities and increase capacity. Being painted in the striking crimson lake Midland Railway livery. 56103 was in tow for insurance reasons.
