West Highland Pullman adds to Carlisle Train Variety 05 October 2026
I was late arriving in the morning and a lot of chaos was missed - a signalling and track issue at Carnforth had caused hold ups and delays. Then the Newcastle line was affected after a fatality and then somewhere south of Preston animals on the line delayed TransPennine Express trains!
Thus on arrival the first train I saw was the delayed Tesco train heading north.
As well as the regular Engineer's train to Basford Hall and the Logs to Chirk what I take to be a new rather large tamper turned up en route to Appleby.
Both the Nunthorpe and 'Cumbrian' RHTTs passed through, the former with its 56s and both with increasingly dirty locos.
Then there was the West Highland Pullman HST on the southbound leg of its Lord of the Isles Pullman from Inverness (and Kyle of Lochalsh)
