Class 46 EMERGENCY STOP! + GWR 813 & 1450 DOUBLE HEADER | Severn Valley Railway |
A fantastic weekend of steam and diesel action at Kidderminster Town on the Severn Valley Railway, featuring Class 46 Peak D182 (46045) and a wonderful double-headed steam departure with GWR locomotives 813 and 1450!
Our video begins on Saturday 17th October with Class 46 D182 (46045) departing Kidderminster Town on the additional 09:40 service to Highley, specially arranged for the Severn Valley Railway’s O Gauge Get Together.
Celebrating its sixth year in 2026, the O Gauge Get Together took place at The Engine House Visitor Centre in Highley over the weekend of 17th and 18th October. The popular event brought together some of the UK’s finest O Gauge model railway layouts and dioramas, alongside specialist traders, demonstrations, displays and the latest in railway modelling technology.
To help visitors reach the event, an additional 09:40 departure from Kidderminster was provided on the Saturday, arriving at Highley at 10:16.
However, the departure wasn’t entirely straightforward! As 46045 begins its journey, one of the platform dispatchers initiates an emergency stop, bringing the train to a halt shortly after setting off. This appears to have been due to a possible door-related issue, although the exact reason is unknown. Once the situation is addressed, the Peak is able to continue its journey.
We then return to Kidderminster Town on Sunday 18th October for some superb Great Western steam action, as GWR 0-6-0ST No. 813 and GWR 0-4-2T No. 1450 prepare to work a double-headed service to Bridgnorth.
We first watch the two locomotives arrive light engine from Bewdley before heading to the water facilities to take on water. The pair then carry out their shunting movements, attaching to their waiting coaching stock in preparation for departure.
There’s plenty of activity to enjoy around the station as the footplate crews make their final preparations, including loading coal into the fireboxes, checking over the locomotives and getting everything ready for the journey ahead.
With preparations complete, 813 and 1450 put on a wonderful display as they depart Kidderminster Town together, providing a fantastic sight and sound as the two Great Western tank engines head off towards Bridgnorth.
But the action doesn’t end there!
Shortly afterwards, Class 46 Peak D182 (46045) bursts back into life and begins a series of shunting movements around Kidderminster station. We watch the impressive diesel manoeuvre its coaching stock, including detaching an observation coach, before shunting back into the platform to prepare for its own departure to Bridgnorth.
A brilliant weekend at Kidderminster Town, with an excellent variety of steam and diesel movements, some interesting behind-the-scenes preparation and plenty of classic Severn Valley Railway atmosphere.
