Description
We begin at Wiltshire's only preserved railway the Swindon & Cricklade Railway who were celebrating the return of steam to their railway in the shape of 1920 built John Cockerill Type IV 0-4-0 VBT Lady Lisa, works no. 2945 (or 4014 😉) This interesting vertical boiler industrial locomotive originated in Belgium recently moved from the Lavender Line, now becoming a Swindon & Cricklade resident, reducing the railways requirement for them having to hire in steam operation. We enjoy the debut ride of the loco on the vintage carriage set between Blunsdon, Swindon Mouldon Hill (formerly Taw Valley Halt) and then back to Hayes Knoll for a return trip behind the engine on its first trip at the railway today. It was also great to meet Henry and Sam of https://www.youtube.com/@ValveGear as well as the locos owner Colin and chat all things railways with them this morning.

After exploring the site, museum and displays and filming a few of the later departures, we head across to Swindon mainline station for the legendary LNER A3 pacific 60103 'Flying Scotsman' working one of two Didcot circular 'Legendary Journey' trips today from Didcot via Reading, Chippenham and returning through Swindon with Transrail 37240 on the rear.

The footage finishes with a look at Swindon Transfer Yard, and thanks to Darren for helping to find the best sport here where alot of this years Colas RHTTs are operating from with a good mix of traction visable on shed including ex Chiltern Class 68s 68014 + 68015, Colas 67s 67023 + 67027 and we also see on hire Freightliner 66544 + Colas 66849 'Wylam Dilly' heading out with an RHTT to Moreton-On-Lugg bringing to an end another interesting and varied weekend of railway action! | 18.10.2026
