The Dawlish Adventure - Saturday 30th April, 2022
Most of the passenger services that we filmed along the Dawlish wall were ran by Great Western Railway and Cross-Country, with Sprinters, Voyagers, HST Castle Sets and Hitachi Bullet Trains seen every several minutes, but the highlight of the day was 'The Great Britain XIV' with LMS 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' pulling the tour from Penzance to London Victoria, on the last day of the week long railtour.
We were very lucky to film the steam tour, because no less than fifteen seconds after the locomotive passed our position by the signal gantry, a Class 800 Hitachi heading from London Paddington to Penzance passed through Dawlish. So, we were just cutting that one very close indeed!
West Coast 47802 followed shortly behind, as a back up for the tour should the steam locomotive fail on the journey home, which it didn't.
We later returned to Exeter St Davids, where 47802 was in the platform waiting for 'Duchess of Sutherland' to travel on ahead with the tour. But while we unfortunately missed the steam tour leaving the station just by five minutes, we did manage to film the Class 47 leave Exeter to catch up with it, so a nice little bonus to add on to the day.
Finally, we filmed a Cross-Country 125 HST set leaving Exeter, which we didn't expect and it ended the sunny day perfectly, as well as the film.
