Settle to Carlisle and Coastal Statesman Railtour - Cwmbran & Appleby - 15/06/19

Yesterday, we went on the 'Settle to Carlisle and Coastal Statesman' railtour, which was travelling from Cardiff Central to Appleby, and had top and tail Class 47s from Locomotive Services, with D1924 (47810) doing most of the hard work, as 47614 was running dead at the back.

It would travel up through the historic Settle and Carlisle Railway on the journey up to Appleby, and then return past under Carlisle, via Ravenglass along the beautiful Cumbrian Coast, before joining at Carnforth, pass through Lancashire, and return to Wales, via Preston, Crewe and back along the Welsh Marches.

This was also or first railtour in almost five years, as our last railtour we went on was Pathfinders 'The Taffy Tug 2' railtour back in August 2014. This tour was also the first time we went back to Carlisle (just briefly) in about five years, as our last trip there was in May 2014.

The weather was a mix of heavy rain and sunny spells, but once we went along the beautiful Cumbrian Coast, it staued sunny for the rest of the journey home. We enjoyed the trip, and we even got the Network Rail HST test train at Appleby as a bonus.
