Description
Performing her first public services since returning from overhaul earlier in 2026, GWR King Class 6024 'King Edward I' makes a visit to the Nene Valley Railway ahead of entering into mainline tour operations. 6024 is one of three GWR 'Kings' to survive into preservation, and currently the only operational example of the class, with classmates 6000 'King George V' and 6023 'King Edward II' on static display within GWR territory, in Swindon and Didcot respectively.

A special operational weekend for the King would see four round trips between Wansford and Peterborough each day. Also on display at Wansford during the King's runs was Aveling & Porter No.9449 ‘The Blue Circle’, which celebrates it centenary this year, having been built in 1926.
