🚂 BR Class 46 ‘Peak’ 46045 | Severn Valley Railway Autumn Diesel Bash

Join us at the Severn Valley Railway’s Autumn Diesel Bash as we follow the mighty BR Class 46 ‘Peak’ No. 46045 (D182) in action along this beautiful heritage railway.

In this video, we capture 46045 at various locations between Kidderminster Town and Arley, showcasing the sights and sounds of this classic British Rail diesel locomotive as it powers through the Severn Valley.

🔴 A Little History of 46045

Built at British Railways’ Derby Works in 1962, D182 is one of just three surviving Class 46 ‘Peak’ locomotives. Powered by a Sulzer 12-cylinder diesel engine producing an impressive 2,500 bhp, the Class 46s were once a familiar sight hauling heavy passenger expresses and freight services across the British Rail network.

Entering traffic at Gateshead in September 1962, D182 was renumbered 46045 in October 1973 under the TOPS numbering system. After withdrawal from regular passenger service in 1984, it went on to serve the BR Research Department as 97404 before eventually entering preservation.

Owned by the Peak Locomotive Company, the locomotive has enjoyed a long preservation career and has become a popular attraction at heritage diesel events.

Following visits to the Severn Valley Railway in 2016 and 2022, D182 returned for the 2023 Autumn Diesel Bash and has remained on the railway ever since. In July 2024, it reverted to its familiar number 46045, wearing the classic British Rail blue livery with full yellow ends.
