Water Orton 1994–95 | Diesel Freight Bonanza – Classes 31, 37, 47, 56 & 60

Description
A superb slice of 1990s railway action at Water Orton, filmed from late 1994 into spring 1995, when a wide variety of diesel freight and light engine movements could still be seen passing through this busy West Midlands location.

The film begins on a bright morning alongside the Derby line just outside Water Orton station, before moving onto the platforms to capture a succession of freight trains and light engine workings travelling east and west through the station.

The locomotives featured include Class 31s, Class 37, Class 47s, Class 56s and Class 60s, providing an excellent cross-section of the diesel traction that was still at work during the final years of British Rail.

With its mixture of freight workings, light engine movements and changing locations around the station, this is a fascinating record of Water Orton in the mid-1990s, just before the railway entered the era of privatisation.

For those who remember the days of BR Blue, sectorisation and old-school diesel freight, there's plenty here to enjoy.

Archive footage from late 1994 and spring 1995.
