Description
🚨 UNUSUAL PERMISSIVE WORKING AT WORCESTER SHRUB HILL! πŸš†

An unusual and rather rare sight at Worcester Shrub Hill, as a 2-car Class 158 and a 9-car Class 802 IET share Platform 1 during a period of disruption on the railway!

Due to the disruption, an unusual arrangement was made to accommodate both trains on the same platform, allowing services to continue operating despite the delays.

The 9-car IET was too long to fit within the available platform space, so following a conversation between the signaller and driver, it was agreed that the IET could pull forward as far as the banjo signal on Platform 1.

🚨 IMPORTANT – PASSENGER SAFETY AND DOOR OPERATION

With the 9-car IET positioned alongside the Class 158, only the front 4 coaches of the IET were accommodated safely alongside the platform, while the rear 5 coaches remained beyond the platform limits.

Crucially, ONLY THE DOORS ON THE FRONT 4 COACHES ALONGSIDE THE PLATFORM WERE OPENED, allowing passengers to board and alight safely.

The doors on the rear 5 coaches, which were not alongside the platform, remained CLOSED, ensuring passengers could not accidentally step out where there was no platform.

This controlled door operation was essential to maintaining passenger safety throughout the unusual arrangement.

The positioning of the IET also allowed passengers to board the Great Malvern service operated by the Class 158.

Despite the unusual circumstances, passenger safety remained the priority, with the train positioned and the doors operated to ensure that passengers could safely board and alight from the available platform.

πŸš† TRAINS FEATURED:

πŸ”Ή 158745 – 2E73
18:40 Bristol Temple Meads to Great Malvern
⏰ Departed 32 minutes late

πŸ”Ή 802107 – 1W34
17:57 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street
⏰ Running 35 minutes late

It’s certainly not something you see every day at Worcester Shrub Hill, with two very different trains sharing Platform 1 and an unusual permissive working arrangement taking place to keep services moving during disruption.

A fascinating example of how railway staff, including signallers and drivers, can work together to manage disruption while maintaining safe railway operations.
