The Flying Scotsman in South Wales - Llantarnam & Magor - Friday 19th May, 2017
First, WCRC 47746 'Chris Fudge' travels through Pontypool & New Inn on the morning run of 'The Cathedrals Express', heading from Cardiff Central to Shrewsbury. The sound of a Class 47 coming through the Welsh Marches was awesome and time-warping.
Later, 60103 'Flying Scotsman' returns the train through Llantarnam, heading back from Shrewsbury to Cardiff Central, with 47746 at the rear of the train.
Luckily for me, I had picked out the best spot to film it from the footbridge, and the sun was in just the right angle.
Later, we head over to Magor, and film three Great Western Railway passenger services, before 'Flying Scotsman' passes through the area, taking the relief line, as it heads from Newport (South Wales) to Gloucester, via Chepstow and Lydney.
Seeing the 'Flying Scotsman' again this year was definitely better than last year's experience in 2016, and I'm really pleased to have seen it again after almost a year.
The iconic engine will be making another run to Wales on Tuesday 23rd May, on the Severn Estuary Circular, so keep an eye open for that one.
Filmed on Friday 19th May, 2017.
