Truro Station & 71000 'Duke Of Gloucester' on The 'Cornish Riviera' 22nd September 2026
22nd September 2026
Upon my visit to Cornwall, I called in at the beautiful Cathedral City of Truro. There I captured on film Class 800/0 and 800/3 Bi-Modes . The nine car sets (800/3) were running on the London Paddington to Penzance services and the five car sets (800/0) were employed on the more local Plymouth and Penzance services. The Falmouth Branch being covered by a Class 150 DMU and longer Cross Country trains by 'Voyagers', Class 220/221. On my visit that day I did not capture on film, the new Class 175 Units, however I did at other locations later during my visit to Cornwall. BR Standard Steam Locomotive 8P Class, 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' halted at the station for around 15 minutes, hauling the 'Cornish Riviera' having taken over at Taunton to run to her destination at Penzance. The five day tour (This being the first leg from London Paddington) ran by Steam Dreams and Locomotive Services Limited, which supplied the assisting diesel Locomotive at the rear of the excursion (57302).
It was a great spectacle and attracted many observers and photographers (myself being one) all huddled on the Western Footbridge.
