Loco Hauled Passenger Service with Large Logo Class 37 - Preston - 02/11/17
The Class 37 was seen in classic blue BR Large Logo livery, which was once a regular colour seen on the mainline network in the days of British Rail. Another loco, 37025 'Inverness T.M.D' also carries the classic blue Large Logo livery, in which that loco is currently on hire to Colas Rail.
After stopping in Preston for several minutes, 37402 then departs the station, making its journey to Barrow-in-Furness. As it leaves the station, a pair of Northern Trains Class 156 units joined together passes the classic loco hauled service, as the unit then enters the other side of the platform.
It's really nice to see Class 37s on the mainline hauling passenger services, especially in Preston. But, make the most of these loco hauled services in Lancashire and along the Cumbrian Coast while you can, as they will soon be stopped by 2019.
There are also regular Class 37 hauled passenger services on the Norwich lines, with a shuttle service provided with DRS Class 37s, running the weekly Norwich to Great Yarmouth line.
The Valley Lines in South Wales used to have regular Class 37 hauled passenger services running from Cardiff Central to Rhymney, using both Virgin Trains and Arriva Trains coaching stock. These loco hauled services ran along the Caerphilly line, until they ended in December 2005.
