Description
LEADING LOCOMOTIVE: Colas Rail Freight Class 60 No. 60047 'Scafell Pike'
Constructed by Brush Traction at Falcon Works in Loughborough, Leicestershire, the 35-year-old Class 60 heavy freight diesel locomotive 60047 'Scafell Pike' was built in 1991. Powered by a Mirrlees Blackstone 12MB275 12-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 3,100 hp (2,312 kW) with a maximum operating speed of 60 mph (97 km/h), this heavy Co-Co "Tug" delivers an extraordinary starting tractive effort of 475 kN—equivalent to the combined towing force of over 100 modern 4x4 vehicles pulling at full throttle simultaneously, or enough raw force to lift 48 tonnes straight up off the ground from a complete standstill. Turned out in Colas Rail Freight's vibrant yellow, orange, and dark grey livery with high-visibility yellow front end and black hazard stripes, 60047 is renowned for its immense load-hauling capability on heavy bulk flows.

HAULED STOCK: 25 Drax IIA High-Capacity Biomass Hopper Wagons
Forming a massive heavy-haul bulk freight working, the locomotive is seen hauling a full 25-wagon rake of high-capacity Drax IIA bogie biomass hopper wagons. Fully loaded with compressed wood pellets imported from North America and Canada via Tyne Dock and Jarrow Coal Terminal, the total trailing load exceeds 1,800 tonnes. Purpose-built for Drax Power Station biomass flows, these specialized pneumatic-discharge bogie hoppers feature automated roof covers and bottom discharge doors designed to transport biomass fuel efficiently while keeping the wood pellets completely dry.

Night Acceleration & Signal Check at Church Fenton Station
Captured in 8K 16:9 widescreen on a warm autumn evening on Monday, 5th of October 2026 at 20:15, Class 60 No. 60047 'Scafell Pike' is recorded restarting a heavy Drax biomass working inside Church Fenton station in North Yorkshire. Operating on the regular Tyne Dock and Jarrow to Drax Power Station circuit, the heavy working was brought to a complete stop right inside the station platform boundaries at the red station signal before receiving a clear aspect.

As the signal clears, 60047 throttles up its 3,100 hp Mirrlees engine, laying down immense power and maximum tractive effort to haul the 1,800-tonne dead weight of 25 loaded Drax biomass hoppers off the stand and accelerate past the illuminated station platforms.
