Before 'The Marches & Severn Express' came through, just a couple of minutes earlier on, another steam charter was seen through Pontypool & New Inn, which was 'The Ludlow Medieval Christmas Fair' steam charter that was heading from Slough to Shrewsbury.

The original steam loco planned to run this charter was A4 Pacific 60009 'Union of South Africa', but unfortunately, the engine had once again suffered the same firebox problems from last week, and ended up breaking down in Rugby earlier in the week.

As a result of that steam engine breaking down for a second time, Black 5 44871 was once again brought in to take it's place to run the steam charter, accompanied with WCRC 47804 seen at the back of the train.

It has not been a very good week for 60009 'Union of South Africa'.
