Class 66 Number 66100 DB Cargo Empty Heavy Metals Makes a Racket as Blast Past Church Fenton Station
Constructed by General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD) at London, Ontario, Canada, the 27-year-old Class 66 diesel-electric locomotive 66093 was built in 1999. Powered by an EMD 12-710G3B-EC 12-cylinder two-stroke turbocharged diesel engine producing 3,000 hp (2,237 kW) with a maximum operating speed of 75 mph (121 km/h), this heavy Co-Co freight workhorse generates 409 kN of starting tractive effort. Finished in DB Cargo UK red livery with high-visibility full yellow cab front ends, 66093 is a prominent unit on British Steel's heavy industrial steel circuits across northern England.
HAULED STOCK: Empty Heavy Steel Carrier Wagons (Including 11 Historic BDA Bolsters)
Forming a specialized heavy metal inter-works transfer flow, the locomotive is seen hauling a long rake of unladen heavy steel carrier wagons returning empty from British Steel's Lackenby Works (Teesside Beam Mill) to Scunthorpe Steelworks (Entrance C). The consist prominently features at least 11 historic BDA bogie bolster steel wagons, built during the 1970s by BR Engineering Limited (BREL). Looking distinctly careworn, weathered, and heavily battered from over 50 years of intense industrial duty, these vintage unweighted steel carriers create an extraordinary amount of acoustic noise—their heavy frames, worn suspension linkages, bogies, and couplers reverberating and clattering intensely as the empty train rumbles across track joints at high speed.
Empty Steel Working Southbound at Church Fenton
Captured in 8K 16:9 widescreen on a warm, sunny autumn afternoon on Monday, 5th of October 2026 at 16:27, DB Cargo Class 66 No. 66093 is recorded thundering southbound through Church Fenton station in North Yorkshire. Operating on the regular Lackenby BSC to Scunthorpe BSC Entrance C industrial freight flow, 66093 blasts through the platforms at speed.
As the train clears the station, the combination of 3,000 hp EMD two-stroke engine power and the immense clatter and bang of the careworn BDA wagon rake produces a deafening spectacle in the bright autumn sunshine.
