DC Rail 56103 'Driver Wayne Gaskell' + 56045 return to Merehead! + 57010 takes WCRC Mk1s to Totnes!

A good day for loco hauled moves today and a brief bit of coverage capturing the main ones of interest, beginning with West Coast Railways Thunderbird 57010 heading West through with x5 Mk1 carriages heading for the South Devon Railway working the 5Z57 Carnforth Steamtown down to Totnes then onto the South Devon Railway for the Winter Polar Express season as well as forthcoming Autumn Diesel and Winter Steam Galas.

We then head across to Merehead Quarry where x2 DC Rail Class 56 diesels were working the 6V95, arriving today on an inbound and outbound working between Willesden DC Rail Sidings! These locomotives have not been allocated to this working for a while, but 56045 has now been repaired, and 56103 wears the nameplates of 'Driver Wayne Gaskell' formerly applied to 56091 so it was great to have some Grid action back in the Mendips.

We see 56103 and 56045 arriving into Merehead, bringing the rake of empty wagons in to the arrival sidings at the quarry where the they would be loaded for the return later on. American built SW1001EMD 44 ‘Western Yeoman II’ made a welcome appearance, both shunting around the sidings and relieving the grid duo of their wagons, before coupling up and taking them into the Quarry to be loaded.

All being well, the pair will be working this Fridays Willesden - Merehead diagram. | 26.10.2025
