DMU Drag Demonstration at Rothley Station
Captured in 8K 16:9 widescreen on a bright, sunny autumn morning on Saturday, 5th of September 2026 at 11:53, the unique top-and-tail consist is seen passing through Rothley station on the Great Central Railway's double-track main line, heading southbound from Loughborough Central towards the southern terminus at Leicester North.
Operating during the annual Autumn Diesel Gala, this train ran as an unadvertised gala feature movement known as a DMU drag demonstration. These demonstration runs simulate emergency stock recovery and stock transfer operations by hauling a diesel multiple unit with locomotives coupled at both ends, explaining why the working was omitted from the published public passenger timetable.
