Description
๐Ÿš‚ A BUSY SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY! | 4150, 75069, 4930 HAGLEY HALL & MORE! | 28/10/2026

Join me for an action-packed day on the Severn Valley Railway, filmed on Wednesday 28th October 2026, as we visit Kidderminster Town and Bridgnorth for plenty of steam action, locomotive movements and a few surprises along the way!

With GWR Large Prairie 4150 back in action, BR Standard 4MT 75069 working passenger services, and an unexpected appearance from 4930 Hagley Hall in steam, there was certainly plenty to see!

๐Ÿš‚ KIDDERMINSTER TOWN โ€“ 4150 & 75069

We begin our day at Kidderminster Town, where we watch GWR Large Prairie No. 4150 depart for Bridgnorth.

Built at Swindon in 1947, 4150 is a member of the GWR 5101 Class, designed for suburban passenger services, semi-fast trains and freight duties. During its working life, it was based at several depots, including Stourbridge, Newton Abbot and Exeter, before being withdrawn in 1965.

Rescued from Barry Scrapyard in 1973, 4150 eventually arrived on the SVR in January 1978. Following a lengthy restoration, itโ€™s fantastic to see this impressive locomotive back in steam after more than 60 years!

We then head towards the station, capturing 4150 from the footbridge near the diesel depot before making our way onto the platform for a closer look at BR Standard Class 4MT No. 75069.

Built at Swindon in 1955, 75069 was designed by Robert Riddles for mixed-traffic duties. After withdrawal in 1966, it was rescued from Barry in 1973 and returned to steam in 1984. Following another major overhaul costing over ยฃ900,000, it returned to service in 2018.

We get some lovely close-up views before watching 75069 depart Kidderminster for Bridgnorth.

๐Ÿš‚ BRIDGNORTH โ€“ A VERY BUSY LOCOMOTIVE YARD!

We then drive to Bridgnorth, where we find 4150 in the yard receiving a well-earned top-up of coal and water.

The yard was certainly busy, with several locomotives to see!

Among them was GWR Pannier Tank No. 1501, the sole surviving member of the Hawksworth-designed 1500 Class.

Built in 1949, 1501 originally worked at Paddington before being sold to the National Coal Board in 1961. Preserved in 1970, it has become a firm favourite on the SVR, earning the nickname โ€œThe Raging Bullโ€ thanks to its impressive power. Its boiler ticket expired in January 2023, and it is currently awaiting its next overhaul.

๐Ÿ”ฅ A SURPRISE APPEARANCE โ€“ 4930 HAGLEY HALL!

One of the biggest surprises of the day was seeing GWR Hall Class No. 4930 Hagley Hall in steam!

I wasnโ€™t expecting this, as I believed the locomotive was still out of action following its recent incident.

Built at Swindon in 1929, Hagley Hall enjoyed a long GWR and BR career before withdrawal in 1963. Saved from Barry Scrapyard, it returned to steam in preservation in 1979 and became one of the SVRโ€™s best-known locomotives.

Following many years out of service, a major restoration saw 4930 return to steam in 2022.

Could todayโ€™s appearance mean a return to regular service is getting closer? Hopefully so โ€“ watch this space!

๐Ÿš‚ MORE STEAM ACTION AT BRIDGNORTH

We then watch 75069 arrive at Bridgnorth before turning our attention back to 4150.

Thereโ€™s some interesting shunting activity to enjoy around the yard before 4150 makes a superb departure, heading back towards Kidderminster in true Great Western style!

๐Ÿš‚ BACK TO KIDDERMINSTER โ€“ 4150 & 7802 BRADLEY MANOR

Our final stop takes us back to Kidderminster Town, where we capture 4150 arriving before it prepares to depart once again for Bridgnorth.

But the action isnโ€™t over just yet!

4150 is tasked with moving the recently returned GWR Manor Class No. 7802 Bradley Manor from beneath the tunnel at Kidderminster, bringing the locomotive out into full view in the yard.

A fantastic way to round off a busy day, with plenty of locomotive movements and some wonderful Great Western Railway steam action!
