Description
Manchester Victoria in 1987 โ€“ British Rail, Forgotten Platforms and Railway Nostalgia ๐Ÿš‚

Step back in time to **Manchester Victoria railway station in 1987**, when British Rail was still in its prime, diesel locomotives filled the air with their unmistakable sounds, and one of Manchester's most historic stations was a very different place from the one we know today.

In this nostalgic journey back to the 1980s, we revisit the sights, sounds and atmosphere of Manchester Victoria before decades of redevelopment transformed this once-vast railway complex.

๐Ÿš‚ **Remember Manchester Victoria in the 1980s?**

The station was alive with railway activity, from the familiar Class 47 diesel locomotives and ageing Class 101 diesel multiple units to the distinctive Class 504 electric trains serving the Bury line. The arrival of Class 142 Pacers marked the beginning of a new railway era.

But it wasn't just the trains that made Manchester Victoria special.

There were the bustling platforms, old-fashioned station announcements, British Rail uniforms, passengers carrying suitcases, and the unmistakable atmosphere of a traditional Northern railway station.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ **What happened to the old Manchester Victoria?**

Over the following decades, the station underwent enormous changes.

The opening of the Windsor Link altered Manchester's railway services, the Bury line became part of Metrolink, and much of Victoria's original railway infrastructure disappeared beneath the Manchester Arena development.

A major redevelopment completed in 2015 brought a spectacular modern roof, improved facilities and a new lease of life to this historic station.

But for those who remember the old Victoria, something very special has been lost.
