Diesel action from today at the Severn Valley Railway for their Winter Diesel Day, following the success of last years one day only event featuring predominantly a home fleet line up of impressive heritage diesel locomotives, steam heated carriages and a comprehensive timetable, this was a great way to get out and pass the time post Christmas and prior to the New Year.

Locomotives in service were:

Class 20s 20205 + 20048
Class 33 33108
Class 37 37263
Class 40 40106 'Atlantic Conveyor'
ex GWR Castle HST 2+4 set 43142 + 43094
Class 46 46045
Class 50 50035 'Ark Royal'
Class 52 D1015 'Western Champion'
Class 108 DMU* (used on unit drags and under its own power throughout the day)

Recently overhauled GWR 0-4-2T 14XX 1450 was also in steam providing steam heat and added interest to the intensive working timetable. It proved to be a very popular event, with packed trains lots of thrash and great local beers and ciders which made it all worthwhile. | 30.12.2024
