Bit of Railway History at Birmingham International 18/12/25
This new pick up and drop off sleeper service started on Sunday 14th December, but on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday due to it running late the southbound service went down the WCML via Nuneaton to pick up some lost time.
So this was the first one to stop at this station going towards London.
In the past I have complained about how bad the sleeper berth beds for comfort are on these MK 5 coaches, but because I have never done the sleeper from Aberdeen I am going to give it another go in 2026.
Not my idea, my mates.
A southbound Caledonian Sleeper service stops at Birmingham International, marking its first scheduled arrival at the station en route to London. The service, which began on 14 December 2025, had previously taken a detour via Nuneaton due to delays. The video captures this moment and references the sleeper’s route from Aberdeen through Fort William, Inverness, and Euston. The operator, Caledonian Sleeper, is associated with the service, which uses MK 5 coaches. The headcode for the train is listed as 1M16.
