LSL 40013 'Andania' & 57311 at TAUNTON! + Britannic Explorer TRAINING RUN 57310 + 66751 & ERS stock!
After arriving from London Victoria and stabling in Taunton Sidings yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpHzY6gK5EU the Britannic Explorer trial train was in action again today, with GBRF 57310 ‘UK Railtours’ leading 66751 ‘Inspiration Delivered - Hitachi Rail Europe’ and the Eastern Rail Services stock from Fairwater Yard - Penzance, as part of crew familiarisation with the Cornish routes the luxury tour will be taking when it enters traffic later this year. Then train had already left the sidings ahead of time and was sitting in Taunton ready to depart as we arrive!
Hot on the heels of the GBRF pair, was today’s Saphos Trains 'English Riviera Express', operated by Locomotive Services Ltd. It is understood that West Country Pacific 34046 ‘Braunton’ failed its fitness to run exam at the West Somerset Railway, and so the tour was diesel hauled today. However a very pleasant substitute came to the rescue in the form of Shaun Wright’s Class 40 D213 / 40013 ‘Andania’! The Whistler looked splendid arriving with 57311 ‘The Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ bringing up the rear, and already running early, after allowing a couple of GWR IETs to pass, and with no locomotive swap to undertake, the 40 thrashed out of Taunton in style heading for Kingswear! | 07.06.2025
