A group of recently indexed videos on Fishplate provides a varied record of British Rail Class 91 locomotives. The footage covers regular LNER InterCity 225 passenger services, station and lineside observations, rescue movements, locomotives travelling without their normal Mark 4 formations and preserved locomotive 91120 at Crewe Heritage Centre.
Although many of the videos were uploaded during August and September 2026, not all of the footage was recorded during that period. Some videos use archive material from earlier years or combine clips recorded on several different dates.
Class 91s in regular LNER service
Several videos show the remaining Class 91 fleet performing its normal role on LNER services between London King’s Cross, Yorkshire and North East England.
Different Generations within a few minutes on Gamston Bank was filmed on the East Coast Main Line south of Retford. Its final sequence records 91109 working 1D08 from London King’s Cross to Leeds. The Class 91 appears alongside newer and older traction, including Class 99 locomotive 99010, Colas-operated Class 43 power cars, Grand Central Class 180s and a Hull Trains Class 802.
The range of traction at this location demonstrates how the Class 91 now fits into an East Coast Main Line worked mainly by multiple units. InterCity 225s share the route with LNER Azumas and trains operated by Grand Central, Hull Trains and Lumo, as well as freight and infrastructure workings.
Another Gamston Bank video, Class 93 changing from electric to diesel on the move, includes two Class 91-operated passenger services. The footage was recorded on 14 August 2025 and shows 91111 For the Fallen on 1A25 from Leeds to London King’s Cross and 91114 on 1D10 from London King’s Cross to Leeds. The Class 91 workings appear alongside Rail Operations Group Class 93 locomotive 93005 and GB Railfreight Class 69 locomotive 69007.
LNER 225 / Class 91 & Mark 4 Sample concentrates specifically on the InterCity 225 formation. It follows 91111 and Driving Van Trailer 82211 working with seven Mark 4 coaches on the 15:10 London King’s Cross to Leeds service. The set is shown arriving at Wakefield Westgate, at Leeds and departing again on the 18:40 Leeds to London service. The video also includes 91114 passing Outwood with the 17:39 London King’s Cross to Bradford Forster Square.
The seven-coach formation is now a standard feature of LNER’s retained InterCity 225 fleet. The sets were shortened from nine passenger coaches for the December 2025 timetable, improving their acceleration and helping them operate among the newer Class 800 and Class 801 trains.
A journey behind 91114
Two videos recorded on 4 September 2026 document different parts of the same LNER working.
LNER InterCity 225 arrives at Leeds shows 91114 Durham Cathedral arriving from Bradford Forster Square with a service for London King’s Cross. The uploader then joined the train for the journey towards Doncaster.
Leaving Wakefield Westgate on an LNER 225 records the train departing Wakefield Westgate and passing through Sandal and Agbrigg. In this direction, DVT 82205 is leading while 91114 propels the train from the rear.
Together, the videos show the principle of push-pull operation. The Class 91 remains coupled to the northern end of the train, while the driver controls it remotely from the DVT when travelling towards London. This avoids the need to move the locomotive from one end of the coaches to the other at a terminus.
Class 91 activity at York
York remains one of the principal locations for observing LNER’s Class 91 fleet.
Trains at York Station Throughout August 2026 includes 91106, 91109, 91110, 91127 and 91130. The 43-minute compilation was recorded on six dates during August and includes several InterCity 225s working the restored Newcastle diagrams.
Regular Class 91 operation north of York resumed on 30 March 2026, when LNER introduced a weekday return journey between London King’s Cross and Newcastle. The York footage therefore records an extension of Class 91 passenger operation beyond the Leeds, Bradford, Skipton and York services on which the reduced fleet had mainly been used since 2020.
Part 3: Trains at York, ECML 1/9/26 adds 91111 to the York selection. The video also includes the other passenger fleets regularly seen at the station, including LNER Azumas, CrossCountry Voyagers, TransPennine Express Class 185s and 802s, Grand Central Class 180s, Lumo Class 803s and Northern units.
Werrington Junction, Grantham and Stevenage
The area around Werrington Junction provides further coverage of Class 91s operating on the southern and central sections of the East Coast Main Line.
No.176 Trains Around Werrington Junction August 2026 Part 2 includes 91106 and 91111 among a much larger collection of passenger, freight and infrastructure trains. The footage was recorded from Lincoln Road, Hurn Road and Cock Lane and also includes Classes 37, 43, 57, 60, 66 and 70.
No.177 Trains Around Werrington Junction September 2026 Part 1 continues the series, with 91106 and 91130 among the recorded locomotives. The video combines footage from Cock Lane and Foxcovert Road.
Two earlier additions to the same series provide archive coverage. No.129 Trains Around Werrington Junction Early August 2024 includes 91107, while No.140 Trains Around Werrington Junction March 2nd–7th 2025 includes 91130.
At Grantham, 60063 test run, 0Z99 and InterCity 225 action records 91106, 91110, 91114, 91119 and 91130. The video was filmed on 27 August 2026 and combines LNER passenger workings with the test run of recently repainted Class 60 locomotive 60063, Network Rail’s New Measurement Train and locomotive 37218. The uploader notes that this was their first sighting of 91110.
Further south, Rush Hour Trains at Stevenage includes 91127 during a busy evening on 15 July 2026. The wider video records services operated by LNER, Grand Central, Hull Trains, Thameslink and Great Northern, together with GB Railfreight traffic.
The Emergency Sequence at Holme Level Crossing, recorded on 1 September 2026, includes 91114. The public description identifies the location as Holme in Cambridgeshire, on the 125 mph section of the East Coast Main Line, but does not give sufficient detail to describe the emergency sequence itself without further verification.
Back-to-back Class 91 locomotives
Class 91s normally work with Mark 4 coaches and a DVT, making movements involving two locomotives coupled together relatively unusual.
Back-to-back Power Cars: HSTs and 91s brings together several examples of locomotives and power cars travelling in pairs. Most of the video concerns Class 43 HST power cars, but its final sequence shows 91110 Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and 91124 coupled together while climbing Gamston Bank. According to the video description, the movement took place after repairs had been completed on 91110.
This provides a clear comparison between a Class 91 operating as part of an InterCity 225 and a locomotive movement without passenger vehicles.
Failures, rescue workings and withdrawn locomotives
Class 91s in Unexpected Circumstances is the most concentrated record of non-standard Class 91 operation in this selection. It uses footage recorded around Retford over several years and includes 13 Class 91 locomotives.
The video opens with a Class 91 running blunt end first before showing several rescue and transfer movements. Class 67 locomotive 67003 is seen dragging a failed InterCity 225, while 67028 hauls a formation containing DVT 82214, a Mark 4 set and 91106. Other clips include Class 90 locomotive 90034 hauling 91105 and 91120, and 67005 moving a dead set with 91119 at the rear.
Rail Operations Group Class 57 locomotive 57312 appears with 91122 and 91128, while GB Railfreight locomotive 66767 hauls 91121, 91126, Mark 4 coaches and DVT 82204. Another sequence shows 67006 moving DVT 82212 and 91114 after a reported fault with the DVT windscreen.
The video also records the movement of withdrawn locomotives. On 10 May 2021, 57305 hauled 91102, 91129, 91126 and 91113 from Doncaster to Newport for disposal. The final sequence shows Europhoenix locomotives 91117 and 91120 being hauled by 57303.
Every Class 67 Working provides additional historical context, with 91112, 91113 and 91128 appearing within a compilation devoted primarily to Class 67 locomotives. Day Job Part 38 also contains appearances by 91110 and 91111 among a much larger group of recorded locomotives.
Preserved Class 91 at Crewe
The Class 91 story is no longer confined to the main line. Crewe Heritage Centre 15/08/26 includes 91120 during a visit to the heritage centre on 15 August 2026.
Locomotive 91120 was built at BREL Crewe Works and returned to the town on long-term loan in September 2022. It has since been repainted in British Rail InterCity Swallow livery. Its presence at Crewe provides a direct connection between the construction of the Class 91 fleet and the developing preservation of the type.
A note about automated stock-number matches
Some videos in the latest Class 91 results have titles and descriptions unrelated to the class. These include videos about a Greater Anglia Class 755, the London Underground, the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway and a journey from Whittlesea to Ipswich. Another match comes from a model railway exhibition.
Such results may involve a model, a locomotive visible briefly in the background, a number mentioned or displayed elsewhere in the video, or an automated identification that requires correction. They should not automatically be treated as confirmed sightings of a full-size Class 91.
The verified videos in this roundup nevertheless provide coverage of normal LNER passenger operation, the shortened seven-coach InterCity 225 formations, rescue and transfer workings, withdrawn locomotives and preservation. More footage can be found in Fishplate’s British Rail Class 91 video directory.
